How a Subscriber-Based Solution Works

How a Subscriber-Based Solution Works

Most solutions you might consider will be add-ons or patches to your company’s business processes and systems. These additions require design, development, testing, training and exhaustive data collection just to get started. It is not a simple task to move from collection of operational data to the calculation of emissions. And, this is a rapidly emerging market, where your processes and systems may need to be updated several times a year. This approach is likely to be expensive to operate.

For services-based businesses and VARs, sustainability-as-a-service reduces or eliminates the investment and risk associated with developing your own Environmental Sustainability Planning and Reporting capabilities.

Federal NetZero‘s platform is designed specifically to meet environmental planning and reporting requirements. As a platform, we minimize the need for your company’s investment and people resources. And, as a platform-based solution your initial implementation costs and time will be drastically smaller than other solutions. We can help your company achieve compliance within weeks rather than years.

Federal NetZero is a Platform-Based Solution

Federal NetZero is designed from the bottom up as an environmental sustainability and reporting platform with the goal of minimizing client costs and compliance risks. The platform integrates mature COTS, open-source applications, more than 50 automations, and 20 client apps to handle all aspects of greenhouse gas emissions data collection, trend analysis, emission calculations; and recommends science-based emission reductions. Annual GHG reporting is automated with tailored reporting to match your annual contract requirements. We minimize your company’s need for internal resources by using the platform to eliminate hands-on-work. Each client has an independent database isolated from all other clients accessible through a dedicated, branded portal, where you may view all aspects of your company’s emissions data collection and reporting. Here are three examples of the power of the Federal NetZero platform.

Examples of the Federal NetZero Platform in Action

Calculating Employee Commuting Emissions

Employee Commuting Net Zero emissions reporting begins with determining annual emissions by transportation type (air, rail, bus, auto (economy, mid-size, large)) for the commuting distance traveled; and for stay-at-home emissions for telecommuting. This involves using complex calculations to convert operational data to emissions data. It is labor-intensive by traditional means.

Federal NetZero achieves this objective using a simple app downloaded to the employee’s desktop or smartphone. Click here to view a functional mockup of the app (not connected to our platform). Each quarter the employee receives a reminder. The app asks the employee to enter fewer than 20 data elements, most from simple drop-down menus (it takes less than four minutes quarterly) – and the Federal NetZero platform does the rest. Nothing could be simpler. If your company shuns such apps, we can email a pdf form quarterly.

Calculating Employee Business Travel

Much like commuting travel, Net Zero emissions reporting begins with determining emissions for each trip by transportation type (air, rail, bus, auto), often multi-mode, for the distance traveled; and for emissions related to hotel stays. This involves using more complex calculations to convert operational data to emissions data, especially hotel stays. It is even more labor-intensive by traditional means and requires the use of emissions models.

Federal NetZero achieves this objective using a similar app downloaded to the employee’s desktop or smartphone. View app. After each trip the employee enters fewer than 20 data elements, most from simple drop-down menus (it takes less than five minutes for each trip) – and the Federal NetZero platform does the rest. Nothing could be simpler. If your company shuns such apps, employees can email a pdf form each quarter.

Calculating VAR Emissions

VAR operations emissions involve the transportation and handling of goods from the manufacturer to end-user, processing along the way, and life-cycle emissions of delivered products (computers, servers, peripherals) sold to the Government. Data collection requirements are extensive. Calculations of emissions are far more onerous as product data is not easily found and correlated with delivered products, and there can be tens-of-thousands of product types. Developing inhouse systems and tools to do this is time consuming, expensive and not without risk.

Federal NetZero’s platform shines in this environment. Our data collection apps simplify data collection, and our platform contains all the data and processing power necessary to convert operational data to emission data. Everything can be handled by an app installed on your shipping department’s workstation. We can work with you to further automate the collection of data, e.g. extracting from a spreadsheet or information management system.
